About the talk

How can psychedelic science build more reciprocal relationships with the Indigenous communities whose knowledge has helped shape the field? Through the concept of Cosmic Diplomacy, Adana Omágua-Kambeba explores dialogue between Indigenous and Western sciences grounded in respect and intercultural collaboration.

The talk considers partnerships among Indigenous communities, universities, health professionals, and the pharmaceutical industry. Confluence invites different knowledge traditions to meet while retaining their distinct perspectives, with shared responsibility for people, territories, and the future of health.

About Adana

Dr. Adana Omágua-Kambeba is a physician and knowledge keeper of the Omágua-Kambeba people of the Brazilian Amazon. She studied medicine at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Her work connects Indigenous medicine, Western science, and intercultural dialogue, approaching health through relationships with community, territory, plants, and ancestors.

This talk examines dosing, comparative effects, pharmacokinetics, interactions, and implications for individualized treatment.

Michelle Olofsson presents large-scale survey work on psychedelic-related difficulties: what people report, how long challenges last, and which factors may predict them. The lecture gives particular attention to adverse childhood experiences as a potential vulnerability factor and concludes with implications for harm reduction and clinical research.

This talk looks beyond symptom reduction to ask how psychedelic-assisted therapy may change the way people relate to themselves, emotions, other people, and the world. Clinical data, case vignettes, and real-world observations illustrate connectedness, emotional access, meaning-making, and psychological flexibility.

Kurt Stocker presents a phenomenologically grounded model derived from more than 100 hours of interviews in controlled LSD and DMT studies. The model asks whether self-transcendence is best understood as loss of identity, or as a more nuanced reorganization in which aspects of minimal self remain identifiable.

What stays after a psychedelic experience ends? Psychiatrist and researcher Tomislav Majic examines the transient period of improved mood, well-being, and cognitive flexibility often called the afterglow, how it is studied, and what part it may play in therapeutic outcomes.

William Richards reflects on altered states of consciousness, palliative care, and the religious dimensions of healing. Drawing on decades of clinical research and psychotherapy, the lecture considers consciousness, suffering, meaning, and care at the end of life.
